A bright sunny morning saw 17 walkers assembling at the World's End pub at Patching, ready for coffee, but.....it initially appeared to be just that - World's End!

A brief moment of anxiety for organiser Peter, but soon we had our lunches ordered, supped some coffee and we were on our way.

Three short walkers (nothing to do with their stature) opted for the brief circuit, whilst the rest of us climbed the hill to the church before diverting off across the Downs along easy-going tracks.

Everyone was pleased not to encounter the Somme-like mud we had suffered the last time we did the walk, particularly Peter who had got some gentle 'stick' from the walkers.

Onward through the woods, we heard some classical music drifting amongst the foliage, which transpired to be a flutist, complete with music stand settled comfortably in the shade of a tree. We never established why or what he was doing there, as he wasn't particularly communicative. You can never accuse Peter's walks of being uneventful.

Continuing on, we passed by the Angmering estate, to climb a short but steep hill to the Fox pub, before turning downhill back to the now, much alive World's End pub, who provided excellent fare us all.

So, 17 signed up, 3 on the short walk, and 16 sat down for lunch. Secretary Dave called for a vote of thanks to Peter for his organisation, before we all departed, no doubt thinking about where to go for walk AF7 in October.
