By some miracle, despite numerous rain showers blowing in from the north, there was no rain during the BBQ!
On Thursday, 12th September, the Probus Club of Horsham Arun Forest held its annual BBQ at the White Horse in Maplehurst. Just under 60 members, partners and guests sat down to a fantastic feast prepared by Simon, our landlord, and his helpers.
Sausages, chicken madras kebabs, salads, sauces, garlic bread – and the list goes on – all followed by puds, with home-made Banoffi Pie being the star of the show. And if one was still hungry, there was a selection of fine cheeses and biscuits – just to fill any remaining corners.
All this was complemented by a wonderful selection of beers, wines and soft drinks from the White Horse cellar. As last year, Simon is stocking a very wide range of alcohol free beers specially selected for the 'discerning drivers'.
It was an enjoyable opportunity for all to get together and it acted as a 'first time' for the ex-Forest Club's members and their partners and it was an opportunity to welcome guests of Members, again as 'first timers'.
Despite the ever threating rain that never materialised and a few incidents of cold squally wind, all in all, the event lived up to its high social and gastronomic reputation thanks to Simon and his band of helpers. It is destined to stay on the list of 'must do' annual events for our Club.
