After several recces during the hot spell, Roy and Dave put together a new walk starting from the Surrey Oaks pub at the far end of Newdigate (Parkgate).

On the day of the walk, thankfully it was still warm and sunny but with more tolerable temperatures

After a somewhat chaotic service of teas and coffees, all walkers set off together towards the Becket Wood estate.

The 12 long walkers then peeled off for a quick loop around Parkgate, whilst the eight short walkers enjoyed an extended loop totalling two miles with no stiles!

The long walkers crossed over to the Newdigate side and proceeded across fields and farm tracks to emerge on to Hogspudding Lane and to enter the old Newdigate Brickworks which is now a Nature Reserve with a large lake for fishing.

Some debate was had over the meaning of "a few stiles" and a request for stiles to be classified for future walks!

After just over four miles, the long walkers emerged back to the pub for a well-earned drink.

The food proved to be of good quality which everyone seemed to enjoy, including the couple who will remain nameless (but shameless) who forgot to pay for their meals, which caused some further confusion with the landlady and the walk organisers.

We can confirm that the couple was subsequently visited by a Club official who administered a yellow card!
