On a very unpromising morning 30 members, (including Honorary Members & Ladies) plus one very eager dog, met at the Yacht Club for coffee, looking at the ever darkening skies outside.

Temporary leader Roger suggested the choice of walking or remaining in the warmth of the club house for coffee and a quiz.

From that point on the day deteriorated!

Three ladies stayed behind, whilst the rest of the group set off on a shortened route via the lock at the marina, after which 11 short walkers split away on their designated route.

The long walkers determined not to be done out of their walk continued contentedly until they reached Dell Quay. The statutory group photo (see above) was achieved amid protestations as the rain began. Intrepid as ever though, the walkers became strung out along the shingle beach back towards the marina, as they were battered by rain and the strong wind off the water. One more difficulty beset several walkers as access onto the footpath from the beach was quite difficult in places, however Probus walkers are never defeated and once in the shelter of hedges and on an easier path, progress back to the Yacht Club was achieved, albeit most of the group requiring a complete wardrobe change before seated for lunch.

Official walk organiser Michael was there, to greet everybody, making the necessary comments about 'sorry I couldn't get wet with you' and whilst we waited for lunch, Roger finally got to put his quiz questions - which revealed how much (?) everyone knew about Sussex.

As always, the food at the Yacht Club was excellent, and thanks we're given to Jim & Anne for hosting the location, which, by popular vote will now be an annual event instead of alternate years, with hopefully more amenable weather in 2027!
