Initially a misty and a trifle cool morning, saw 19 walkers assembled at the White Hart in Henfield.

The 4 short walkers headed in one direction with detailed directions of their route, including some questions about features for them to find before coffee and return to the pub. The long walkers headed in the opposite direction to circumvent the cricket pitch before a gentle climb up onto the ridge southwest of the town. From there, through a still present haze, it was just possible to see Devils Dyke, Truleigh Hill and Chanctonbury Ring along the top of the downs in the distance. Descending down towards the site of the old tanneries near Borrer Bank, the sunshine came through by the time we reached the 15th century St Peter's Church (built on the site of the 8thC Saxon Church), which had some interesting features causing us to pause. Then it was onto the historic, thatched Cat House built in the 18th century, with some amusing history (a dwelling had existed on the site since the 1400s). It was then a few yards back to the White Hart for lunch in our own private dining room.
